We present our two new collections in which design is the protagonist: Vélez and Nerja Saying that someone is a pioneer in craftsmanship may seem like an oxymoron, but at todobarro we have revived means of production that, from our point of view, should never have been lost. For traditions to remain alive, we must adapt them to the world in which we live , and that is what we do with our work: reconvert the language of baked clay to a language that is understood today through design. LEBLUME and Carlos Jiménez: an organic collaboration In our latest collaboration, we have gone one step further, and we have had two young Andalusian designers for our latest signature collections . Damián López, at the head of the LEBLUME studio , and Carlos Jiménez , have joined forces to design, respectively, Vélez and Nerja, two collections inspired by architectural and landscape elements of the province of Málaga. With two different styles and philosophies , one of the common points of these two designers is that their activity has historically been closer to industrial design. In this collaboration with todobarro, both LEBLUME and Carlos Jiménez have applied everything they know and everything they are as designers to the needs of a material and a company that has specific requirements.
Accustomed to working on projects where the materials behave exactly, the processes include technology and production times are fast, working with todobarro meant forgetting all that,” says Carlos Jiménez. “I realized that working with clay is a very practical process, since it is a quite unpredictable material. To reach a final result it is necessary to adjust small details, so that finally the pieces come out as perfect as possible. All of this entails long waiting times and great work Israel Phone Number List by many people, where artisans stand out .” For Damián López, having the opportunity to work and learn first-hand about the traditional manufacturing and elaboration process of terracotta has been an exciting experience: “Having the opportunity to collect all this legacy and be able to create something new from it has been a unique opportunity that has changed my perception and that of my team forever.” Local investment from start to finish The two new collections of these young designers find their inspiration in the landscape and architectural environment of the area. The Vélez collection , signed by LEBLUME, rethinks the classic architectural elements of the circle and the half point to create modular tessellations .

With the combination of the six finally selected pieces, patterns can be created that are reminiscent of different eras and artistic and architectural movements, using only classic elements from the oldest Andalusian tradition. Through the exploration of geometry, LEBLUME has designed a collection that brings the most classic elements into dialogue with the different historical languages that make their combinations possible. Carlos Jiménez, however, has taken elements of popular culture as the basis of his collection. The design of Nerja takes as inspiration the terrazzo floors of the town in Malaga where the popular television series Verano Azul was filmed in 1981. With the final selection of two triangles and two irregular trapezoids, the Nerja collection imitates large-scale terrazzo. This type of material was used for the first time in the 15th century by the popular classes to use the remains of construction materials. Carlos Jiménez reformulates the popular aesthetics of terrazzo to create seemingly irregular geometric patterns, which nevertheless respond to the careful planning of the forms. Neocrafts, green consciousness and design The name neo-artisans came to our firm through other people's descriptions. The techniques we use not only recover the production processes that have been traditionally used for clay tiles for more than a millennium, but also evolve these same techniques with the incorporation of intensive use of R&D and new technologies.
